ORGAN AND ORCHESTRA IN GALANT STYLE
ІІ «PIZZICATO E CANTABILE» SUMMER SEASON FESTIVAL
The French word «gallant» means «refined, polite». The galant style in music is a transitional phenomenon from the Baroque to Classicism. Sometimes it is compared to Rococo in painting. In the XVIII century the music of Handel, Vivaldi, Couperin, Telemann and Pergolesi, the leading practitioners of the style, becomes simplier, lighter and more sensual. Galant style can also be found in the neoclassical searches of Italian and French composers of the XX century.
For the Lviv Virtuosos Academic Chamber Orchestra, which since 1994 has been directed by its founder, artistic director, chief conductor and People's Artist of Ukraine Serhii Burko, the galant style is the most natural embodiment of artistic ideas and creative ideals. Their cooperation with the organist Olena Matseliukh has a great future.
