A Concert of Choral Music
II Academia Music Festival. From Youth To Youth (15-24 April 2016)
From 15 to 24 April Lviv holds II Academia Music Festival: From Youth To Youth, aimed to promote creative and talented youth of our city. Concerts take place in Lviv Philharmonic, Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy, Saints Peter and Paul Garrison Church and Lviv Polytechnic National University.
Ostap Maichyk, the director of the festival, professor of Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy, said the idea to hold the festival belongs to the rector of M. Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy, People's Artist of Ukraine, Ihor Pylatiuk, who thus wants to promote music education in his institution.
At the festival young people perform and young people listen to - From Youth To Youth.
Ostap Maichyk informed, "With the help of the festival we hope to reengage the attention of intelligent listener. To such festivals and creative events we involve young people from other institutions to participate in artistic life of our city, promoting and developing the level of high art".
This year the festival has grown in size – last year there were 8 concerts, but now there are 14.
During the first festival organizers collaborated with various Lviv institutions, but the strategy of the second festival has been changed: it has one general partner – Lviv Polytechnic National University – which helps to hold the festival.
Lviv Polytechnic and Ivan Franko University have lots of artistic ensembles that demonstrate a high level of performance which inspire and motivate both directors of the bands and pedagogues to show their creative achievements on the stage of Lviv Philharmonic. Thus on April 17 perform Students’ Choir of M. Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy and Gaudeamus National Students' Choir. On April 19 Lviv Polytechnic presents its ensembles in Lviv Philharmonic.
According to Ostap Maichyk festival fans have different tastes: someone likes to sing and dance, someone enjoys accordion and cello, someone - chamber music, the other likes piano - all this will be present at the Academia Music Festival. Each concert is based on the performance of students from different departments: Violin, Concertmaster, Chamber Ensembles, Jazz as well as large students’ symphony orchestras.
As it is fasting period special attention is paid to the concert program on April 22 at Saints Peter and Paul Garrison Church, where will preach Metropolitan Ihor Vozniak. Soloists, accompanied by Students’ Choir and Symphony Orchestra of M. Lysenko LNMA Opera Studio will perform large piece by Antonin Dvorak Stabat Mater.
"I want to add a few words about a concert, which was not included into our festival – it is the opera Don Giovanni at the Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Last year was the premiere of this opera, staged and directed by Vasyl Vovkun (with participation of students, choir and orchestra) and it was a great success. Vasyl Vovkun is very creative personality and interesting teacher who inspires his students who with great pleasure attend the rehearsals. Staging of Don Giovanni is a new and very interesting creative experiment for musicians and can be called 14th concert of our festival," summarizes the festival director Ostap Maichyk.
